New guitar

I bought myself a guitar yesterday.
It;s been about two years since I had one of my own.
It feels so good to play it, I almost cried.

A Yamaha C70, classical.
Nylon string.

They even included a gig bag at no extra cost.

Fortune smiles upon me.

My face is hot.
Red no doubt, with capillary dilation.
Not gin blossoms, but Whiskey Roses.

Goodnight.

Change of focus

Instead of trying not to think about troubling things.
Or dwelling on slights and offences.
I intend to not just distract myself, but really entertain myself.

And not by picking my life apart.

I've learned that this constant analysis and evaluation and calculation,
Is driving me nuts.

This is news to no one but me, I'm sure.

Even my dreams are scary lately.

I think I'm going to buy a guitar this week.
I haven't owned one for a while now.
Had to pawn or sell them all long ago.

I'm looking at a classical guitar, nylon string.
Easy on the fingers, lots of flex.

I've never owned a nylon-string guitar that i didn't find in the garbage.
Though that was a good find.

I like to get out of the house. I should try and do that more.
That guitar isn't even the only good instrument i've found in the garbage.

I feel I should explain;
In my area, twice a year, there is what's known locally as a 'big garbage'.
During the 'big garbage' just about anything you put at the end of your driveway will be picked up.

People take this opportunity to get rid of old furniture, unwanted appliances, even unused electronics.
During the 'big garbages', trucks and vans can be seen driving slowly up and down streets, inspecting the piles at the edge of the road for something they themselves would like. Most of the stuff gets picked up by other citizens, not even the waste disposal employees. I've known unemployed people to make quite a bit of cash going around collecting TVs and fridges and washers and dryers.

And it was during this 'big garbage' time, that i was walking home one morning, about 6 am, and it was just starting to rain a little. I spotted a guitar up ahead in a garbage pile. As I approached, I noticed it appeared to be in reasonably good shape, albeit missing two strings. I picked it up to examine it further, it was a Fender! Woo-hoo! I quickly covered the guitar with my jacket, and walked the last half-block or so home.

I played that guitar for a good two years. Maybe even three. I never even replaced the missing strings. Eventually, I sold it to a pawn shop for something like 35 or 40$. i think it was 35$, and 6$ worth of SNES games or something. Either way, well worth picking up, for all the fun it brought me, and i was even able to turn it in to a little cash when times were tough. Thank you, whoever discarded that guitar.
